UP TO DATE – VM Roadshow 2009
26.10.2009
Another year, another VM Roadshow. But this year was different in many ways. Only one day and only one venue, but bigger than ever, the VM Roadshow took place in Munich on October 22nd. What had not changed from previous Roadshows was the very special muellerPrange vibe, the good mood of the attending guests and the exciting and informative speeches about the Verlags-Manager VM and the future of the media business.
The muellerPrange team kicked the event off themselves. Simone Zink and Helmut Müller allowed a first view on the new VM 2009. Live demos showed the new intuitive VM user interface, that flexibly adjusts itself to the needs of the user. The new components “VM Navigator” and “VM Operator” will make the day-to -ay business with the success-software even more efficient.
Rosemarie Lade, “executive producer” of the VM, then shed light on the small and big enhancements of the most used VM module, the order management. It will, often thanks to the input from customers, not only be more modern and more productive, but also more innovative. 525 of the 870 new features, that have been realised in VM in the past year, are exclusive to the VM 2009. Among those are the extended support of special agreements and the new title spanning frame contract.
Supported by a video message from Herwig Baumberger, head of marketing at the Austrian publishing house Falter, Gotlinde Haderlein and Willibald Kirisits explained the successful launch of the VM-C with a webshop for Falter. The publisher now markets its subscriptions, combo subscriptions with premium gifts, as well as an extensive multimedia portfolio (books, movies and music) in a webshop. Storage, premiums and orders are managed by VM in the background. Without problems, as the live order of a Falter subscription from the point of view of the ordering party and of the publisher proved.
The peek “through the keyhole” was then again given by Rosemarie Lade: into the development laboratory of the VM 2010. Thanks to the new 4D 11 platform, innovations are now possible that are up to the usual muellerPrange quality standards. One of the big topics will be the 4D Web Area, a layout engine that can create future oriented user interfaces even in a web browser, as a prototyped made clear.
Helmut Müller himself then showed in his visionary speech “Software of the modern media” how VM and the new product family MediaMillion and MediaSaleswave cater to the special requirements of the modern media world – from an analytical CRM as impulse generator, over an operative CRM as a sales tool, to professionally perfect order management. In addition, he announced the availability of all systems from the outlet of the “cloud” – for new and existing customers – for 2010, as well as new innovative price models.
During the further course of the roadshow, Dr. Ekkehard Veser and Julian Schwarze of the publishing house Gruner+Jahr explained the reasons as well as the execution of implementing a sales CRM at G+J EMS with Microsoft CRM and the Media Saleswave by muellerPrange. For the first time in 16 years, this successful project made it possible to unite all marketing structures of the publishing house under one roof. The existing software solution by muellerPrange proved to seamlessly integrate itself into the existing system landscape of G+J.
The vision “Dymanic Content + Paid Content = Dynamic Paid Content”, that he developed together with Helmut Müller, was introduced by Dr. André Klarhold, business manager of InterRed. The idea is to generate impulse buying online for individualise dossiers, parallel to the impulse buying mechanic in the offline world. While added value for the reader alone is a good thing, it is even better to be able to monetise it without the payment process being an obstacle. Additional potential was revealed in the automated placing of suitable advertisement, matching the context or the interests of the reader.
In a workshop for the new VM technology, VM product manager Dankmar Ehinger informed administrators about the changes “under the hood” in the area of the server administration, gave tips for a smooth migration and tuned the audience in on the use of the Unicode standard, that allows to realise multi-national tasks.
In a highly regarded practical experience report for the target group of the attending specialised publishers, Stefan Pemsel of the publishing hosue publish industry gave an insight into an innovative organisation and a cooperative system landscape, that sees the VM in the centre as the “single point of truth” – and that has an ever increasing benefit through the integration of as many internal interest groups as possible.
Closing the VM Roadshow 2009 off with his impulse speech “Print Plus. The future of print”, trend scout Nils Müller, business manager and founder of TrendOne, allowed a glimpse of how augmented reality and other innovations can provide a future to the medium print. Screens made of paper in newspapers and magazines and a melting of print and digital might sound like science fiction now, but only 15 years ago the same was the case for the internet mobile phone for the pocket that everyone would be using.

CRM: “All or nothing”
8.10.2009
In the course of the structural changes of the publishing sector, the topic CRM is getting more and more important and is becoming a central strategic key element – for the distribution, in marketing and in the advertising business, but also increasingly in the editorial sector. Helmut Müller, business manager of the publishing software specialist muellerPrange, Munich, explains why CRM will have to be more in the future than a tool to manage addresses and orders.

Media Saleswave:
ad sales system now also available from the "cloud"
Munich, April 2009
Special times require special solutions: the muellerPrange solution partner Global Concepts has expanded the Microsoft CRM based sales CRM "Media Saleswave" by an important service: no costs from buying a license, no costs and no trouble with a server, with installing or maintenance. Instead, only low user fees.
Starting as low as 99 Euro per month and user, the cross-media-sales CRM "Media Saleswave" is available via the internet as a browser based application. An additional advantage: with the "dedicated service" all users of one customer use their own entity instead of the more common "shared principle". This leads to the highest possible security for sensitive data in customer and opportunity management.

muellerPrange Newsletter 02 2009
Munich, February 2009
As positive news are few and far between these days, muellerPrange is happy to give a positive resume for the past year.
New Products and Pilot Projects
Standstill is a step backward, and that is why we are especially proud when new muellerPrange products are successfully adopted by our customers. And there are new reasons to be proud: since 2008, three more publishers are putting their trust in the innovations from the muellerPrange product family.
Since October of 2008, G+J Electronic Media Sales (EMS), the online advertising department of Europe’s biggest magazine publisher’s sales house, is working with the cross-media ad-sales CRM "Media Saleswave" by muellerPrange. “Media Saleswave” has been integrated at EMS by muellerPrange’s integration partner Global Concepts.
IDG Communications Media AG is also relying on muellerPrange quality when it comes to cross-media marketing and the sales of new marketing forms. After completion of the pilot project, IDG’s (e.g. GameStar, PC Welt, Macwelt) 45 ad sales managers will increase their productivity with the new "MediaMillion AdSales".
The publishing group Rudolf Müller Mediaholding puts their editorial workflows into the hands of the MediaMillion platform. By doing so, they can be sure that their usual day to day work runs smoother than ever and that no new ideas will be lost anymore. With the print and online editorial CRM "MediaMillion Editorial" you are not only able to manage the actual production of current editorial pieces but also store, effectively follow up on and further develop new content concepts prior to the production.
News from the VM-Community
Especially in critical times, applicable software helps with a publisher’s success. Jahr Top Special Verlag is the first VM customer who will benefit from the “muellerPrange Ultimate” license. The general license of the new ultimate model allows the license holder to use all muellerPrange systems on any number of workstations. Additionally, Jahr Top Special, in cooperation with the muellerPRange product partner censhare, implements a web shop for classifieds.
