Thanks to the introduction of the web service based VM Services (XML and SOAP), it is now possible to access VM even without the VM access software (4D client). Concrete examples: VM sputnik, an extension of the Microsoft Office product family and Windows XP operating system, connects to VM through standard internet infrastructures and web services. Or connection through the content management system CenShare from Coware AG: the procedure for creating standard advertisements by end customers is provided as a feature in this system, whereby access to VM customer data or the transfer of an order to VM is handled through VM Services. Another example: a browser-based system created by the company using VM or by a partner of the company.
VM business logic and data are now accessible without the 4D VM client. For media enterprises using VM this new openness creates possibilities for integrating VM and other systems cost effectively. IT creates added value in particular by bridging discontinuities in the process chain. That is the benefit of VM Services. And for this reason muellerPrange is committed to continued development of the service-oriented architecture with VM.
In order to access these new environments, users who do not have a VM license but who access VM through VM Services can purchase a license for VM Services Access. Licenses are allocated by muellerPrange based on the "named user" principle. Users of VM Services Access can then be assigned access rights to functions and data in VM.
